Pain Care Boise
Short for “proliferation” therapy, prolotherapy, similar to PRP is used to help strengthen tendons and ligaments. However, prolotherapy is more commonly done with ligaments (as PRP is now more commonly done with tendons). Prolotherapy involves injecting typically a hypertonic glucose solution to actually irritate and reinitiate the body’s own inflammatory and healing process. The healing process is especially important at the attachment sites of the ligaments on the bone referred to as the “-enthesis.” This helps to strengthen the tendon or ligament, thus prolotherapy is commonly used when laxity or loose hypermobile, subluxing, or dislocating joints are a concern.
Common indications for prolotherapy:
SI (sacroiliac) strains
Ankle sprains
Shin splints
Costochrondritis
Whiplash injuries
AMNIOTIC FLUID
Regenerative techniques are not typically covered by sureties. However, just recently Medicare(only) now covers the use of Amniotic fluid. This contains many growth factors and cytokines which helps with regeneration and decrease inflammation. There are no stem cells in this product. It is derived from the amniotic liquid within the placenta. It is only taken from consenting, pre-planned, screened, Caesarean births. This process follows the strict FDA regulations. Like PRP it can be used for arthritis, tennis/golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis, and other tendon/ligament injuries of the knees, hips, shoulders, elbows and wrists. This is EXCITING news for the elderly or any patient on Medicare!
